This session, hosted at the University of Toronto - St. Michael’s College, John M. Kelly Library, will be taught in English by Simon Rogers, Chair of the NAAB Board of Directors, and Curtis Sassur, Practising NAAB Appraiser. The session will be hybrid; registrants can choose to participate in person or remotely. The session will consist of three full days of courses followed by one day dedicated to consulting archival materials and preparing for the final assessment: the appraisal report. On the final day, in-person participants will work on site to consult archival material in preparation for their final assessment. Remote participants will have the choice of consulting archival material from their own institution, or to work on a digitized collection. The instructors will be available to answer questions both in person and remotely.
The Masterclass puts in place the critical pieces of the archival monetary appraisal puzzle and, in a straightforward way, enhances your skills, increases your understanding about monetary appraisal processes and improves your ability to undertake effective archival monetary appraisals. Case studies will be used to illustrate and deepen the lessons learned. On the final day of the Masterclass, participants will inspect archival material for their summative assignment – a full archival monetary appraisal and a written monetary appraisal report – due on 13 August 2026. Upon successful completion of the summative assignment, participants will become eligible to be designated as a Practising NAAB Appraiser.

In 2025, NAAB’s Professional Development Committee worked to update the areas of expertise that appear on the PNA directory and member profiles. The areas of expertise were reviewed by committee members and language was updated when necessary. Previously only displayed in English, the terms are now bilingual.

Virtual Monetary Appraisal Forum: Dollars and Sense On March 7 and 8, 2022, members of the appraisal community gathered for NAAB’s Virtual Monetary Appraisal Forum: Dollars and Sense. Held virtually, the Archival Monetary Appraisal Forum featured intensive professional development opportunities, networking, and fruitful discussions and recommendations to address critical challenges, such as the monetary appraisal of electronic records.
The National Archival Appraisal Board (NAAB) will host its AGM on Thursday, April 24, 2025 at 1:00 PM to 3:00 PM Eastern Time. The meeting will be held via videoconference, using Zoom, and simultaneous interpretation will be available. Login details and other documentation will be provided at least one week prior to the meeting.

At the 18 November 2024 meeting of the NAAB Board of Directors, the decision to update fees was approved by the Board. These new appraisal fees come into effect today, 1 April 2025.
The change is two-fold. Firstly, the fee structure was changed to an hourly model. Compared to day rates and half-day rates, hourly rates are more transparent and make accounting easier for the NAAB Secretariat. Secondly, there was a modest increase to the fees which have not been increased since 2017. The Board considered the rising cost of living and this increase, while still ensuring affordable rates for institutions, it also allows appraisers to be compensated more for their work and makes the profession more sustainable.
NAAB appraisal honoraria starting on 1 April 2025:
• Member: $480/day ($60/hour)
• Dealer: $680/day ($85/hour)
Note: The daily rate is based on an 8-hour day.

Lors de la réunion du 18 novembre 2024, le Conseil d'administration du CNÉA a approuvé la décision de mettre à jour les honoraires. Ces nouveaux frais d'évaluation entrent en vigueur aujourd'hui, le 1er avril 2025.
Le changement comporte deux volets. Premièrement, la structure des honoraires a été modifiée pour devenir un modèle horaire. En comparaison avec les frais à la journée ou à la demi-journée, les frais horaires sont plus transparents et facilitent la comptabilité pour le secrétariat du CNÉA. Deuxièmement, il y a une augmentation modeste des frais qui n'ont pas été augmentés depuis 2017. Le Conseil a tenu compte de l'augmentation du coût de la vie et cette augmentation, tout en garantissant des frais abordables pour les institutions, permet également aux évaluateurs d'être mieux rémunérés pour leur travail et rend la profession plus durable.
Honoraires pour les évaluations du CNÉA à partir du 1er avril 2025 :
• Membre : 480 $/jour (60 $/heure)
• Marchand : 680 $/jour (85 $/heure)
Note: Les frais journaliers sont calculés sur la base d'une journée de 8 heures.

The Masterclass will be taught by Simon Rogers, archivist and Chair of the NAAB Board of Directors, and Joanna Aiton-Kerr, Vice-Chair of the NAAB Board of Directors and Provincial Archivist of New Brunswick.
